BIOGRAPHY

 

Maddie Colvin (she/her) is a portfolio career percussionist working as a multi-faceted performer and educator based in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). Although she is classically trained with a Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), her musical interests are explored beyond the orchestral stage including chamber ensembles, managing community events, and dabbling in composition.

Maddie's musical experiences have included being a member of the multi award-winning Defying Gravity Percussion Ensemble, performing with WA Youth Orchestra, Perth Symphony Orchestra, Fremantle Symphony Orchestra, WA Wind Symphony and Perth Thundercorps drumline, as well as being part of musical theatre shows and multiple chamber ensemble projects, including being the General Manager of Marimbafest Australia for three years. Maddie currently works as a percussion tutor across Perth schools and has adjudicated percussion and drum kit performances.

Over the years, Maddie has been grateful to have been under the tutelage of Tim White OAM, Dr Paul Tanner, Marcus Perrozzi, Genevieve Wilkins and Rosie Taylor. During her musical endeavours, she has also received mentorship from world renowned artists such as Michael Askill, Robert Oetomo, Fiona Digney, Clare Edwardes, Kana Omori and Timothy Constable – some of whom she has been lucky enough to perform alongside.​​​​

Musical highlights include:

  • Attending the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis (USA), 

  • Performing in five sold-out FRINGE WORLD shows at the State Theatre Centre (WA) for Menagerie's In Dreams (was also awarded Weekly Award Winner for Music & Musicals),

  • Playing vibraphone at the Australian Football League Women's (AFLW) Fremantle Dockers home game as match day entertainment at half-time as part of the Festival Freo, and

  • Performing Alice Humphries' large scale commission work Be Transformed for symphony orchestra, opera chorus, gospel choir and jazz and contemporary musicians, performed at a sold-out Perth Concert Hall.

Maddie is passionate about inspiring and nurturing others during her music career, sharing the wonderful world of music-making while connecting people together.
